Due to the coronavirus spreading quickly, prisons have started to take actions to slow the spread of the disease in prisons. In addition, several executions have been stayed as a result of the ongoing health crisis.

How does the corona outbreak affect the death row population in the Polunsky Unit? Unfortunately, all Texan prisons had to suspend visitation by friends and family indefinitely in order to prevent the risk of exposure of the inmates and employees to the virus. Also, any inmate with a 100.4 °F temperature (38 °C) will be medically isolated and treated following the ‘contagious disease protocol’. Employees are being temperature screened before they enter the units, and will be denied entrance if they have a fever of 100.4 °F (38 °C) or higher. These measures are needed in order to keep everyone safe.

However, the suspension of visitation makes life on death row lonelier than ever. As we all have to socially distance ourselves, now would be a great time to start or to keep writing Clinton a little extra.
